4 things I love about living in London

It’s been almost a year since we moved to London to work (me) and study (Emman and the kids) and it’s been an eventful 12 months to say the least. I miss our family and friends terribly and I dream about the lifestyle (and affordable, excellent food!) back home but in my effort to always look at the brighter side of things, here are the top 5 reasons we love living in London:

  1. We’re never bored

Getting around is easy, even with 3 kids, so we take them everywhere. Every weekend is an opportunity to explore this vibrant city, rich in history and culture. Most museums are free to the public, the parks are the best in the world and there’s always something going on in almost every corner.

2. Everything works

Having lived in a third world country riddled with an overwhelming amount of problems – widespread corruption, outrageous traffic and dire transportation, just to name a few – moving to a country where everything just WORKS is such a shock to the system. I personally don’t miss the 2 hour, 7km drives to and from the office.

3. Traveling (to the rest of Europe) is dirt cheap

£70 tickets to Spain, £40 tickets to Paris. Need I say more?

4. Adulting and independence

Being forced to grow up is hard! But knowing that we can survive with 3 kids without help is truly empowering. Our 2 older kids can now bathe, feed and dress themselves, prepare their uniforms, pack away their toys and dishes, take care of their younger brother, prepare their own (simple) snacks and meals. Emman was nanny and labandera for close to a year. I look forward to cooking dinner every night and tidying up around the house on weekends. Who knew?
